Linda Nasca-McMullen November 26, at Plus I could use a part-time job to keep this retired nurse out of trouble!!! I would love to have a Wegmans near me. Either in Scarsdale or Yonkers. There is a Pathmark store which closed across the street from where I live which has been empty since the store closed. The only supermarket in the area is Shoprite which is further up on Central Park Avenue. I always enjoy shopping in Wegmans when I visit my daughter who lives in Buffalo, N. Now we have to travel to go to Shoprite which is less convenient. Looking forward to having a Wegmans near me.

This newcomer in the brick colony is conceded to be one of the finest brickmaking establishments on the picturesque Hudson, famed as the head-center of the industry in this quarter of the globe. All that goes to make a location desirable is found at Newton Hook in great liberality–pure sand in illimitable quantity, hills of clay that literally can never be exhausted and a small mountain of the best shale that the state of New York can boast. In addition to these admirable resources are the unequalled means of transportation afforded by the New York Central railroad on the one hand and the waterway of the world on the other.

Of equal importance with location are the up-to-date labor-saving devices that have been incorporated in the new plant. Newton Hook was formerly Coxsackie Station, but the name was changed recently, partly because it was too frequently confused with the town of Coxsackie on the west shore of the river, and partly because the topography makes it appropriate, for a hook-shaped peninsula juts into the river at that point. The Cary property is several hundred feet south of the railroad station at one of the most commanding points of the eastern shore.

Back of the buildings that comprise the plant rise a series of hills, each a mine of wealth from the viewpoint of the brickmaker, and the company owns acres of these convolutions extending back from the river. The present buildings comprise two driers, each 53 x ft. From the midst of the group the stack rises to a height of 90 ft. This has a 4-ft. The buildings lie between the railroad and the river, and, the shore being very marshy, it was necessary to fill in for quite a distance.

Jailed in November for the killing of a former school friend, Honeck was paroled from Menard Correctional Center in Chester, Illinois on 20 December , having served 64 years and one month of his life sentence. In the decades between his conviction and the time his case came to public notice again in August , he received only a single letter — a four-line note from his brother in June — and two visitors: Honeck, a telegraph operator and the son of a wealthy dealer in farm equipment, was 21 years old when he was arrested in Chicago in September for the killing of Walter F.

They also carried a getaway kit: Richard Honeck before and after:

Lackawanna Means “the stream that forks,” and the fork in question is the confluence of the Lackawanna River with the northern branch of the Susquehanna.

Lackawanna County was once part of Luzerne County, and the breakoff did not come easy. The first rumblings of secession were heard in the s, some 20 years after Bradford and Susquehanna counties had broken off, due mainly to the impracticalities, not to mention the social regression, of having to travel to Wilkes-Borough to transact official business.

When suggestions started floating about that another northern chunk of Luzerne County wanted to break off, the PTB powers-that-be of Wilkes-Borough became alarmed, so they developed a two-point scheme. One, they agreed to the breakoff and formation of Wyoming County, centered around Tunkhannock, throwing as it were a bone to folks clamoring for more self rule.

Wyoming County was viewed as offering relatively little in terms of financial value.

Route 7 , originating in Connecticut and continuing northward to the Canada—US border, enters Bennington from the town of Pownal , winding its way through the rural countryside in the southern portion of town as a two-way traffic, two-lane surface street. Its names are South Street and North Street in the downtown district, meeting Route 9 at an intersection in downtown known locally as the “Four Corners”, but officially known as Putnam Square as the Putnam House sits on the southwest corner of the intersection.

It then becomes a divided highway just south of the intersection between Northside Drive and Kocher Drive. From there, it is a 4-lane limited access highway with two interchanges within the town before entering Shaftsbury as a Super 2 freeway as it connects Bennington with Manchester and Rutland to the north. Route 7 is also known as the Ethan Allen Highway for most of its length within Vermont.

Route 9 is two lanes wide with two-way traffic over its entire segment in Bennington, intersecting with US Route 7 at “Four Corners” in the downtown district. It leaves Bennington approximately 1 mile 1.
